Welcome to my blog, or should I say to the ramblings of an old man. I doubt that my ramblings are of much value, but at least I have an opportunity to share them.  So, please be kind and humor me. If nothing else of value stands out in these thoughts, I hope that you at least sense the value I place on a daily walk with the Lord.  That walk is what has provided me with motivation and a sense of purpose throughout my lifetime.  My prayer is that you, too, are experiencing this direction and joy in daily living which is available to everyone who puts his trust in Christ.  So, thanks again for joining me.  Please don't go without leaving some comments here so I can get to know you better as our paths intersect today in this blog.

Hire Me

For several decades one of my most important jobs was interviewing for math teaching positions for grades 7-12.  It was a very challenging but important job.
Over the years I probably hired 50 or more teachers and interviewed well over 130.  Thankfully I was able to hire many very good teachers, especially in years in which the number of available candidates was very small.
Recently somebody sent me stories of actual interviews.  While I never had any this bad, these at last were good for a few laughs.
Vice Presidents and personnel directors of the one hundred largest corporations were asked to describe their most unusual experience interviewing prospective employees.

* A job applicant challenged the interviewer to an arm wrestle.

* Interviewee wore a Walkman, explaining that she could listen to the interviewer and the music at the same time.

* Candidate fell and broke arm during interview.

* Candidate announced she hadn't had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and french fries in the interviewers office.

* Candidate explained that her long-term goal was to replace the interviewer.

* Balding Candidate excused himself and returned to the office a few minutes later wearing a hairpiece.

* Applicant said if he was hired, he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm.

* Applicant interrupted interview to phone her therapist for advice on how to answer specific interview questions.

* Candidate brought large dog to interview.

* Applicant refused to sit down and insisted on being interviewed standing up.

* Candidate dozed off during interview.

The employers were also asked to list the "most unusual" questions that have been asked by job candidates.

* "What is it that you people do at this company?"

* "What is the company motto?"

* "Why aren't you in a more interesting business?"

* "Why do you want references?"

* "Do I have to dress for the next interview?"

* "I know this is off the subject, but will you marry me?"

* "Will the company move my rock collection from California to Maryland?"

* "Does your health insurance cover pets?"

* "Does your company have a policy regarding concealed weapons?"

Happy Father's Day

Father's Day – a day that you often think about when it is too late to do anything about it.  Oh how we sometimes wish we could honor our dads after they are gone.
I admit that I often feel that way.  I wish that I could still visit my dad, or take him out to eat, or at least call him and thank him for being such a great father.  I'd love to give him a hug once more.  But those days are gone forever.
I was fortunate to have four godly fathers who influenced my life – my earthly father, a father-in-law, a step-grandfather, and a grandfather who I never met but was an influence on me.  I am blest and I wish I could show my thanks to each of them this year.
But I do have a Father who means more to me than any of these four – my heavenly Father.  I don't want to miss the opportunity to thank and praise Him – each day.  He alone is worthy of our worship.  So let me take this chance to share my praise to my Father, the God of the universe.

Father, I adore You
Lay my life before You
How I love You
Jesus, I adore You
Lay my life before You
How I love You
Spirit, I adore You
Lay my life before You
How I love You

You can listen to it here.

Father, We Love You,
We Worship And Adore You,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.
Glorify Thy Name, Glorify Thy Name,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.

Jesus, We Love You,
We Worship And Adore You,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.
Glorify Thy Name, Glorify Thy Name,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.
Spirit, We Love You,
We Worship And Adore You,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.
Glorify Thy Name, Glorify Thy Name,
Glorify Thy Name In All The Earth.
You can listen to it here.
God is so good, God is so good, He's so good to me.
God answers prayer, God answers prayer, God answers prayer, He's so good to me.
He cares for me, He cares for me, He cares for me, He's so good to me.
I love Him so, I love Him so, I love Him so, He's so good to me.
I praise His name, I praise His name, I praise His name, He's so good to me.
You can listen to it here.
GOOD

Thank you Lord, for saving my soul
Thank you Lord, for making me whole;
Thank you Lord, for giving to me
Thy great salvation so rich and free.

You can listen to it here.

Don't forget, if you still can, contact and thank your father this weekend.  And don't forget to thank and praise your heavenly Father each day.

JUNE MEMORIES

The month of June has some dates that contain special memories for me.  These dates are important because they involve family members who have been instrumental in my life.
JUNE 4 – The birthday of my brother, Terry.  If the Lord wouldn't have called him home early, he would have been 78 this year.  Terry was a caring person who loved the Lord and was used by Him in so many ways.
Terry was an encourager and he often helped and encouraged me, especially in ministry challenges.  I really miss him.
JUNE 21 – my father's birthday.  I was blest to have a godly father who showed me what it meant to put the Lord first in everything.  I saw him sacrifice for the work of the Lord in ways that others never knew.  He was responsible for the founding of our church in Lancaster and he provided the leadership for our church for decades.
Dad would be 106 earth years if he were still here.  But the Lord quietly called him home one morning.  I still miss him and often wish I could just call him for his wise advice.
JUNE 2 – Our wedding day, 61 years ago.  The Lord gave me a wonderful wife who loves the Lord.  He has enabled us to minister together in a wide variety of ways for all of our years together.  He has also blest us with a special family.  We have so much to be thankful for.
As I was thinking about all my June memories, I recalled one of my favorite hymns which is my testimony.  I am thankful for the blessed assurance that God gave to my dad, my brother, my wife and I, and our family members.  This is my story, this is my song … praising my Savior all the day long.

(1)    Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

(2)    Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

(3)    Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Listen to it here.  ASSURANCE

I Want To Stroll Over Heaven

Two weeks ago I was watching a Gather Homecoming video when I heard an interesting song which I had never heard before.  The song was written by a Cal L. Trivette in 1952 and was sung by Alan Jackson.
Jackson explained how Trivette wrote this gospel song for his wife, Marilee Rasnake, before she passed away. It combines the love that he has for his wife, and the desire to be with her even in heaven. Trivette also praises the Lord in the song. She requested this to be sung at her funeral. So, when she died in 2003, Carl recited the song as a eulogy to her.
"I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You" is a powerful message to share with your spouse.  That should be the desire of each Christian couple.  What a joy to know your love is eternal.
Now I wrestled with the question of where I could share this song.  I decided against my hymn blog because I didn't want anything to detract from the primary goal of spending time with Jesus, my Savior. Nobody can come second to the real lover of our soul.
So I chose to share it here – in my personal blog – on our 61st wedding anniversary. And there is no greater desire than to worship the Lord in His presence and to enjoy heaven with my loved ones, especially my wife.
The song also has another personal appeal to me.  Most of my life I would walk daily for my exercise.  In the past few years, back and leg problems have left me handicapped and unable to walk without a walker.  I look forward to the day when I am cured and can stroll again, especially with my wife in the beauty of heaven.

If I surveyed all the good things
that come to me from above
If I could count all the blessings
from the storehouse of love
I'd simply ask for a favor of Him
beyond mortal kin
And I'm sure that He'd grant it again

I want to stroll over Heaven
with you some glad day
When all our troubles and
heartaches are vanished away

Then we'll enjoy the beauty
where all things are new
I want to stroll over Heaven with you

So many places of beauty
we long to see here below
But times and treasures
have kept us from making
 plans as you know
But come the morning of the
rapture together we'll stand anew
Then we'll stroll over Heaven with you

I want to stroll over Heaven
with you some glad day
When all our troubles and
heartaches are vanished away
Then we'll enjoy the beauty
where all things are new
I want to stroll over Heaven with you
I want to stroll over Heaven with you

You can listen to it here.  STROLL
