Welcome to my blog, or should I say to the ramblings of an old man. I doubt that my ramblings are of much value, but at least I have an opportunity to share them.  So, please be kind and humor me. If nothing else of value stands out in these thoughts, I hope that you at least sense the value I place on a daily walk with the Lord.  That walk is what has provided me with motivation and a sense of purpose throughout my lifetime.  My prayer is that you, too, are experiencing this direction and joy in daily living which is available to everyone who puts his trust in Christ.  So, thanks again for joining me.  Please don't go without leaving some comments here so I can get to know you better as our paths intersect today in this blog.

My Favorite Season

          2020 has been a year that we will never forget.  Covid19 has affected all of our lives in so many ways.  Life has just not been the same.  It is easy to get discouraged.
          But we shouldn't forget some of the many things that God has provided us that still exist.  I was reminded of that as I read a blog that I had published on September 7, 2010. I have decided to share this once again in hopes that it might help us take a more positive view of our life today despite the many negative things that surround us..
          Let's be reminded that God hasn't changed.  Let's take time to appreciate what He has provided for our enjoyment.  God is so good, all the time.

          LOOKING BACK - This weekend we received a brief taste of my favorite season of the year - Fall. Now I do like all four seasons and I am glad that I live in an area where I can experience all four. But, without a doubt, I love the season that has just begun. The relief from the heat and the low humidity that we experienced this weekend made me realize that this beautiful season is on the way. There is no question that I do enjoy the cooler temperatures.
          There is something special about Fall evenings, especially when the smell of burning leaves and active fireplaces mix with the crisp, cool evening air. And I love the beauty of the changing leaves - if only they would stay on the trees a little longer. It is so beautiful when the mountains are painted in mixtures of reds, oranges, yellows, and browns. God is such a masterful artist.
          Then there are the fields of corn stalks and pumpkins which are so evident in Lancaster County. And I look forward to fresh, tasty apples. In fact I could eat one right now.
          And with this season comes football which is probably my favorite sport. I enjoy baseball, but it is so slow. Basketball is fun, too, but it is played indoors. Football is exciting, fast, and filled with excitement. And what can match a great football game on a crisp Saturday afternoon or a great night game with heavy coats, gloves, and blankets. Oh yes, it is a great time to look forward to in the months ahead.
          Unfortunately, those months pass so quickly and then comes the snow - opps, let's not ruin the thought with four letter words. Let's just enjoy the beautiful days ahead. Grab an apple, watch a football game (even if just on television), take a walk in the woods,  and enjoy this time of beauty which comes just once a year. Enjoy each day and thank the Lord for His beautiful creation.

    1. I sing the mighty pow’r of God,
      that made the mountains rise,
      That spread the flowing seas abroad,
      and built the lofty skies.
      I sing the wisdom that ordained
      the sun to rule the day;
      The moon shines full at His command,
      and all the stars obey.
    2. I sing the goodness of the Lord,
      who filled the earth with food,
      Who formed the creatures through the Word,
      and then pronounced them good.
      Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed,
      where’er I turn my eye,
      If I survey the ground I tread,
      or gaze upon the sky.
    3. There’s not a plant or flow’r below,
      but makes Thy glories known,
      And clouds arise, and tempests blow,
      by order from Thy throne;
      While all that borrows life from Thee
      is ever in Thy care;
      And everywhere that we can be,
      Thou, God, art present there.

Dearest Brother Barry,

October 3rd is my birthday. Today I turned 65 years old. My husband and I have been to the Lancaster area many, many times over the years, especially in the 1970s and 1980s How we loved to see the Amish with their horse drawn carts, the beautiful foliage. the cool air, and the silence when we were driving along back roads.
We have spent many a weekend away from home in Lancaster. Going to Miller's Smorgasbord and other local Lancaster places.

I miss visiting your beautiful area, but the last time we were over there--coming from our home state New Jersey--and the Jersey Shore where we're from--it has changed, and not for the good, I'm afraid to write. Along Rte. 611 in the Stroudsburg area it was a little economically depressed. The hotel we stayed at was run down, the stores were closed and a lot of little diners were gone, too.

One thing we can all count on is that heaven is not economically depressed, run down or close. God gives us riches to enjoy while we are here, and He has promised us better accommodations in His home...heaven.

Thank you for your beautiful stories. We no longer live in New Jersey, but we are now near Myrtle Beach, SC. Rapidly growing, and beautiful.
